In addition, Aminah has also taught ESL for two summers in Saudi Arabia as well as Drama grades 1-12 at Young People’s Theater in downtown Toronto.
Aminah has very strong beliefs regarding education that she displays in the classroom. She believes in cultivating an open environment in the classroom where students feel comfortable speaking their minds and exploring their thoughts without fear of being ridiculed or rejected. This environment fosters student’s confidence and encourages them to engage with the lesson and material. In order to engage students, Aminah also uses a variety of teaching methods that students respond to. She considers the students’ personality and hobbies and creates lessons that grab the students’ interest. Rather than sit, read, and answer worksheets, Aminah uses media, drama, comics, poetry, television, powerpoint, real life examples, creative writing, etc. When one method does not work, she uses another until all the students understand the material in various ways. This variety addresses students’ needs, accommodating their different styles of learning and understanding.
